Pre-Session Newsletter

The upcoming General Assembly session convenes Wednesday, January 11th, and you may have noticed we paused our newsletter last week while my staff and I prepare for another busy year. I am excited to be back on Capitol Square and get down to the nitty gritty.

This year, I expect to sit on the same committees that I have in the past: Finance; Health, Welfare and Institutions; and Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources. It’s an honor to serve on these committees and to be trusted to review all incoming legislation regarding such important policy areas in Virginia. I'm also introducing several pieces of my own legislation, which I look forward to sharing more about as they move through the legislative process.

During the session, you can expect a session newsletter email every Friday to keep you up-to-date on the committee process, legislation, and the news coming out of the General Assembly. If you have questions or concerns about legislation, or simply want to express your opinion or meet with myself or a member of my staff, please feel free to contact my office at the email and phone number listed below. Hearing from constituents is a vital part of my job, and I always take your opinions into serious consideration when I cast my vote.

If you have any questions or need assistance with a state agency, please contact my office at DelRWillett@house.virginia.gov or phone at 804-698-1073, and my expert staff will be happy to assist you. I also will continue to keep you informed with relevant, accurate information via Twitter, Facebook, and my website. Please stay well and stay in touch.

Sincerely,

Rodney

New Information

2023 Regular Session Summary

The General Assembly will convene for its annual regular session on Wednesday, January 11th 2023 at noon. In odd years like this one we are amending the biennial budget rather than crafting a new one, so we typically meet for a “short’” 46-day session. Follow along through the Legislative Information System (LIS) to keep up with committee meetings and floor sessions and review introduced legislation. We will be meeting in person at the Capitol, but all House meetings and Senate meetings are available to be streamed online by following the embedded links. If you have a question about navigating any of the General Assembly websites, feel free to reach out to my staff for assistance.

Below is a summarized list of key dates this session:

  • January 11 at 12:00 PM – House convenes

  • January 11 at 4:00 PM – Governor’s State of the Commonwealth Address

  • February 1 – VanValkenburg-Willett Legislative Fellowship

  • February 5 – Committees responsible for Budget Bills to complete work

  • February 7 – Crossover

  • February 9 – Budget Day

  • February 25 – Adjournment scheduled

Commending and Memorial Resolution Requests

Each year I am proud to introduce commending and memorial resolutions that honor constituents in the 73rd House of Delegates District and Henrico County residents. To request a commending resolution to recognize an achievement or service to the community and/or a memorial resolution in honor and memory of a community member, please reach out to my office by emailing DelRWillett@house.virginia.gov or by calling (804) 698-1073. For each, please provide your name, contact information, type of request (commending or memorial), the name of the honoree, and details of their community involvement.
