Newsletter: General Assembly 2020 Session

I am looking forward to participating in the Henrico Delegation Town Hall on Wednesday, March 25 from 5:30-7 pm at the Faison Center’s Community Hall (5200 Fitzhugh Avenue). Please join us that evening and share this event with your neighbors so that they can also attend. There is no need to sign up or RSVP, we will see you there!

We completed work on the bills introduced in the House in time for crossover last week. We are now hearing Senate bills in Committee and on the House Floor. Several of my bills have been heard in Senate Committees over the last week, including HB967, HB1553 and HB375. The Senate made amendments to two of these, but I am pleased to see all three continuing to make their way through the Senate process. I will be presenting the remainder of my bills to the Senate committees in the coming week.

The House and Senate released their respective draft budgets on Sunday, and now the work to reconcile the two begins.

Here is the latest bill matrix for bills that I am carrying:

By The Numbers:

I have received over 1950 emails and phone calls from constituents in the 73rd district.

There are 14 days left until Session ends. Our last day is Saturday, March 7th.

At crossover last week, more than 1400 bills traded hands to be heard and voted on in the other chamber before session concludes.

In The News:

Beginning October 1st, anyone wishing to board a domestic flight or access a federal facility will need to have a REAL ID-compliant credential. Travelers can also use a passport or other federally accepted identification to fly domestically. Federal law requires an in-person application at DMV locations and I encourage you to do so now as it is expected that lines will get longer as we get closer to the October deadline. Before you head to your local DMV, check here to ensure that you have the proper documentation to take along with you.

Community News:

Earlier this month I mentioned a few events related to Black History Month and I wanted to keep the links here in case helpful for you:

A list of Black History Month events can be found here.

Information on the Black History Month Historical Marker contest can be found here.

Over the last month I have mentioned several opportunities that are still accepting applications:
